The Story Behind The Guv’s Trick

Who is The Guv, and why is this his trick? The Guv (short for Governor) is the TV industry’s nickname for legendary writer/producer Michael Sloan. After witnessing Nick Lewin perfect this routine at the Magic Castle, Michael wrote an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (Houdini on Channel 4) that featured the trick. This routine also led to Nick being hired for several TV commercials and as the technical advisor for Kenny Rogers as The Gambler.
