Description & Effect
Unleash Your Inner Mentalist
Imagine this: you're seated around a dinner table, the atmosphere is relaxed, and a guest playfully challenges you to demonstrate your mystical abilities. You retrieve a deck of cards, initiating an extraordinary journey into the minds of your audience. 'Working Nine To Five' by Art Vanderlay isn't just another card trick; it's a masterclass in psychological illusion, designed to leave your spectators genuinely bewildered by your supposed telepathic powers.
The Jaw-Dropping Effect
This routine unfolds with a captivating sequence of events. A guest shuffles the deck, then it's split into four smaller piles, distributed amongst other participants for further mixing. With your back turned, a guest freely selects one pile and discards the rest. They gaze intensely at their chosen cards, attempting to transmit their thoughts directly to you. What follows is pure magic: you proceed to name every single card in their hand, perhaps with one or two deliberate, subtle misses that only amplify the realism of your mind-reading feat. This isn't just a trick; it's proof of genuine telepathy, as far as your audience is concerned.

Working Nine To Five by Art Vanderlay
Whilst seated around a dinner table, one of your guests requests for you to show them some of your abilities. Grabbing a deck of cards from your drawer, you hand them to your guest instructing him to give them a shuffle.
Once done the deck is then separated into four smaller groups of cards and handed out to four other members of the group for further shuffling. These groups of cards are then placed onto the table. You look away as your original guest selects any pile they like and then proceeds to get rid of the rest of the piles. He/she looks through the cards and attempts to send them to you via telepathy. You are now able to name every single card in his or her hand (you will be wrong or closely miss once or twice). Proof of mind reading!
