The magician introduces a set of envelopes, each containing a famous oil painting, and engages the participant in a brief trivia game to guess which paintings are inside.
This warm-up round sets the stage for the real challenge: identifying the fake painting among the genuine ones. The participant confidently chooses a painting, believing it to be the fake.
The paintings that were not chosen are turned over to reveal a bold ‘X’ drawn across the backs of each, indicating they are fakes. Lastly, the selected painting is revealed to be the only one that has a ‘check’ on its back!
Despite their initial elation, the magician explains that unfortunately the check mark actually indicates the only real painting!
In a hilarious twist, the other paintings are then flipped back over and they have magically changed into horribly drawn fakes, which can be examined by the participant!
