Unleash Unforgettable Mentalism with D.D.T – The Dictionary Diary Test

Step into a new era of mentalism with Scott Creasey's D.D.T – Dictionary Diary Test, a revolutionary approach to the classic book test effect. For centuries, mentalists have captivated audiences by revealing thought-of words from books. Yet, many commercially available book tests often fall short in terms of practicality, examinability, or sheer impact. Driven by a desire for a truly versatile and utterly baffling method, renowned mentalist Scott Creasey developed D.D.T, an ingenious system that has remained a closely guarded secret until now. Prepare to elevate your performances with an effect that is as deceptive as it is simple.

What is D.D.T?

Imagine this: you hand a spectator a completely ordinary, unassuming pocket diary – the kind anyone might carry. You ask them to merely think of any date in the year, a date known only to them. They then silently read the unique and interesting word written beside that specific date. Without asking a single question, without any fishing or pre-show work, you stunningly reveal the exact word they are thinking. This isn't just about words; D.D.T also includes the 'Remembering Pi' variation, allowing you to reveal thought-of numbers with equal precision and mystery. The beauty lies in its simplicity and the fact that you won't need any complex gimmicks or 'magic shop' props, just a readily available everyday item.

Why D.D.T Will Transform Your Repertoire

D.D.T was meticulously designed with the modern mentalist in mind. Firstly, its customizability is unparalleled. Whether you're performing on stage in a cabaret setting or engaging guests with intimate walkaround close-up magic, D.D.T adapts effortlessly. The prop itself is incredibly innocuous and highly examinable, meaning spectators can handle it freely with minimal audience management, enhancing the illusion of genuine mental prowess. The selection process appears completely random, ensuring that the spectator feels a true sense of free will. Furthermore, Scott Creasey painstakingly curated hundreds of interesting and unusual words, ensuring every reveal is engaging. Lightweight and taking up minimal pocket space, this digital download provides you with a powerful, practical, and truly personalizable book test that you'll be eager to incorporate into every show.

Book tests have been around for a very long time.
There are those magical historians who are a lot more knowledgeable than me who say the first book test was likely performed by publisher and mentalist Girolamo Scotto for the Emperor of Austria in 1572. But it seems Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser is thought to have introduced the first modern book test variation between 1865 and 1875. Needless to say, they seem to be as popular with mentalists today as they were four hundred years ago.
I, like most, have a collection of commercially produced book tests that I’ve purchased over the years, but I’ve never really been enamoured enough to include any of them in my working repertoire.
Some years ago I decided to design my own minimalist variation and so I sat down and set myself some criteria with the idea of producing some sort of dictionary-style book test that doesn’t actually use a dictionary or any other type of magic shop prop.
I wanted something customisable that I could use in cabaret but also for walkaround close-up gigs, so it had to take up minimal pocket space. The prop had to be innocuous and reasonably examinable so a spectator could handle it with minimal audience management, and I wanted the selection process to appear completely random. But most importantly, I wanted all the words in the book to be interesting or unusual.
Then in 2009 I had an epiphany mid-performance in a nightclub in Spain, one that enabled me to manufacture my own customisable book test that I’ve kept to myself until now.
Hand a spectator a small pocket diary, ask them to merely think of a date in the year (you never know what it is) and silently read the strange and interesting word written by that date.
You can now reveal what they are thinking.
A single ordinary pockdet diary and hundreds of words.
But there’s more because I’ve also inluded a variation that I call ‘Remembering Pi’ that focuses on numbers rather than words.
