Description & Effect

Uncover the Secret of 'Matching The Cards'

Step into the world of classic card magic with Lewis Ganson's essential ebook, 'Matching The Cards Teach-In'. This digital download offers an unparalleled deep dive into one of card magic's most lauded effects, an illusion that Dai Vernon himself considered 'difficult to beat' for its profound impact on lay audiences. Praised by the world's leading card experts, this teach-in provides a rare opportunity to master an effect that has graced countless professional acts, securing its place in the annals of magic history.

The Astonishing Effect Explained

Imagine this: a spectator freely selects a card, which is then set aside, face down, its identity a mystery. The performer then expertly cuts to three cards, seemingly matching the chosen one—say, three Eights. But when the spectator's card is revealed, it's a King! A moment of apparent failure transforms into pure wonder as the previously displayed 'Eights' miraculously morph into the other three Kings, completing a stunning four-of-a-kind. This elegant and powerful routine delivers a truly baffling climax, leaving audiences speechless and thoroughly entertained.

Variations from the Masters

Beyond the core routine, this comprehensive 41-page PDF—originally a 32-page 1st edition from 1977—grants you access to an array of incredible variations. Delve into the ingenious minds of magic legends as you learn methods from Dai Vernon, Nate Leipzig ('Comedy of Errors'), Herbert Milton, Faucett Ross (including an 'Impromptu Matching' version), Fred Lowe ('Matched Poker Deal'), and Luis Gavilondo ('Matching "Do As I Do"'). Each variation offers unique insights and techniques, allowing you to tailor the effect to your personal style and presentation. From intricate sleights to comedic twists, you'll gain a versatile arsenal of card magic prowess.

Original Specs

When Lewis Ganson asked Dai Vernon what he considered to be the best card effect, he replied that in his opinion "Matching The Cards" would be difficult to beat, particularly when performed for lay audiences. His opinion is shared by many of the world's leading card experts, who have often featured one version or another in their acts.

The grand daddy of this effect can be found in Magician's Tricks by Hatton and Plate. The effect of Vernon's version is as follows:

A card is selected by a spectator and placed face down on the table without the face being shown, then the performer endeavors to cut to the three other cards which match to make 'four of a kind'. He shows each card as it is found - three Eights and places them face down on the table. When the spectator's card is turned, it is found to be a King, so seemingly a mistake has been made. However, when the other three cards are turned face up once more, they prove to be all Kings!

You will learn variations by Dai Vernon, Nate Leipzig, Herbert Milton, Faucett Ross, Fred Lowe, and Luis Gavilondo.

This was part of the famous Ganson Teach-In series originally published by Supreme Magic Inc. Rights are now owned by Martin Breese whom we thank for the kind permission to reproduce this booklet.
