Description & Effect

A Historical Departure for Gibecière

In a unique and highly anticipated edition, Gibecière by Stephen Minch - Vol 2 No 2 (Summer 2007) takes a significant departure from its usual article-based format. This volume is entirely dedicated to the profound translation and analysis of one of magic's rarest and most historically crucial texts: Horatio Galasso's 'Giochi di carte belissimi' (Most beautiful card games), originally printed in Venice, Italy, in 1593. This isn't merely another issue; it's a deep dive into the very foundations of card magic, presenting a seminal work often cited but rarely truly understood.

Unearthing Ancient Card Secrets

Galasso's 'Giochi di carte belissimi' holds a place of immense importance in the history of conjuring, standing alongside such titans as Reginald Scot's 'Discoverie of witchcraft' and Prevost's 'La premiere partie des svbtiles, et plaisantes inventions'. While the late 16th century saw numerous accounts of skilled sleight-of-hand artists captivating audiences across Europe, Galasso's book broke new ground by providing actual methods. For the first time, magicians had a printed resource detailing how these incredible card effects were achieved. This digital download allows you to explore the very birth of systematic card trick explanations, offering an unparalleled glimpse into the practical magic of the Renaissance.

Revelations That Shaped Modern Magic

Prepare to be astonished by the historical revelations contained within this 187-page digital treasure. This volume unveils, for the very first time in print, the explanation of what would later become the world-famous '21 Card Trick'. Beyond this iconic effect, you'll also discover the foundational system that would eventually be attributed to the legendary Si Stebbins. Imagine accessing the raw, original concepts that underpin so much of contemporary card magic, directly translated and analyzed for the modern reader. It's a journey back to the very roots of some of magic's most enduring principles.

Expert Translation and In-Depth Analysis

This incredibly rare historical document, previously known in only two surviving examples worldwide, has been painstakingly translated into clear, accessible English by Lori Pieper. But the journey doesn't stop there. We are immensely proud to also publish the esteemed Vanni Bossi's detailed, insightful analysis of this wonderful book. Bossi's expertise illuminates Galasso's work, providing context, historical perspective, and practical understanding that elevates this digital download from a mere translation to an essential study for any serious student of magic. This Gibecière edition is not just a book; it's a vital historical expedition for every card magician and magic historian.
