A Decade of Magic: Celebrating Gibecière Vol. 10 No. 2

Step into the rich tapestry of magical history with Gibecière Vol. 10 No. 2, the milestone 20th issue from Stephen Minch. Marking a decade of unparalleled exploration into the arcane arts, this Summer 2015 edition is meticulously crafted to be one of the series' most captivating releases. As a digital download, it offers instant access to a treasure trove of historical accounts, expert analysis, and closely guarded secrets, perfect for both seasoned magicians and enthusiastic historians.

Uncover Legendary Secrets and Historical Correspondence

This issue begins with an electrifying journey alongside Enrique Jiménez-Martinez, as he unveils the astonishing story of Faustino Chacón, the 'fireproof man.' Brace yourself for a truly singular narrative that will leave you spellbound. Following this, the heat intensifies with a groundbreaking exposé on Dr. James William Elliott, the 'World’s Challenge Champion Card Manipulator.' Penned by renowned card magic historian Jan Janson, this article is a must-read for anyone aspiring to mastery. Janson draws from a previously unpublished cache of letters exchanged between Dr. Elliott and the illustrious T. Nelson Downs, now part of the American Museum of Magic's esteemed collection. This deep dive not only illuminates Elliott's life but also generously reveals a few of his most cherished card secrets, marking a significant collaboration between Conjuring Arts and the American Museum of Magic.

Master the Art of the Shuffle: Gaspard Monge's Legacy

The journey continues with a fascinating examination of the mathematician Gaspard Monge’s shuffle. R. Sid Spocane II expertly details its potential applications in magic and its intricate relationship with faro shuffling, providing a delightful introduction to this unique concept. Complementing this, Maxwell Pritchard delivers an expertly rendered translation of Monge's original late 18th-century paper, 'Reflections on a Card Trick.' This seminal work, first presented and published when Monge was a newly minted Ph.D. in France, offers an extraordinary glimpse into the intellectual foundations of card magic. Prepare to be intrigued by the mathematical elegance and practical utility of this historical maneuver. Gibecière Vol. 10 No. 2 is more than just an ebook; it's an immersive experience designed to educate, inspire, and entertain. We extend our sincere gratitude for the support that has brought this publication to its incredible 20th issue.

Gibecière 20, Summer 2015, Vol. 10, No. 2

Wow! Ten years and twenty issues. This, our 20th issue, is one of the best ever and we have pulled out all the stops to make it amazing.

We begin with a dangerous look at Faustino Chacón, the fireproof man, courtesy of Enrique Jiménez-Martinez. Our brush with Mr. Chacón left us a little bit singed on the cover, but none the worse for content.

Following this, we continue to heat things up with a revealing article on the World’s Challenge Champion Card Manipulator of the World, Dr. James William Elliott! The article was written by Jan Janson, a card magic historian and friend of Conjuring Arts, who used a heretofore unpublished cache of letters between Dr. Elliott and T. Nelson Downs. These letters were in the collection of Robert Lund and now in the collection of the nonprofit American Museum of Magic. Jan delves deeply into Elliott’s life and even reveals a few of his most cherished card secrets. A must read for anyone desiring to go for the title! This is the first collaboration between Conjuring Arts and the American Museum of Magic.

The mathematician Gaspard Monge’s shuffle is next on the docket featuring a look at how it may be used for magic, and its relation to faro shuffling, by R. Sid Spocane II. This delightful introduction leads us into a translation of Monge’s original article “Reflections on a Card Trick”. Monge was a newly minted Ph.D. in France in the late 18th century when he first presented and published this great paper. The translation was expertly rendered by Maxwell Pritchard.

We think you will find this to be a very intriguing issue and thank you very much for all the wonderful support that has brought us so far!
