Founded in April 1971 at the iconic Forks Hotel in Buffalo, New York, by Eddie Fechter, Bill Okal, and Obie O’Brien, the FFFF convention was created to celebrate the art of close-up magic. What started as a small gathering has grown into a legendary event that continues to inspire magicians worldwide.
Guest of Honor Tradition
Since 1977, each convention has been dedicated to a single Guest of Honor, recognizing their significant contributions to close-up magic. This tradition highlights the achievements of some of the most influential figures in the field.
Lou Gallo MVP Award
In honor of Lou Gallo, the annual Most Valuable Person (MVP) Award is presented to the individual who has made the most significant impact on the convention. Voted on by all attendees, this award is a testament to the spirit of collaboration and excellence that defines the FFFF.

Fechter’s Finger Flicking Frolic by Daryl
The Fechter’s Finger Flicking Frolic (FFFF) convention is the “Original Close-Up Magic Convention” and the most prestigious gathering of close-up magicians in the world. Since 1971 it has been a By-Invitation-Only event.[1]
Commonly referred to as the 4F convention, It was started in April 1971 at the famous Forks Hotel in Buffalo, New York by Eddie Fechter, Bill Okal and “Obie” O’Brien, who decided that it would be nice to have a convention dedicated strictly to the art of close-up magic.
Beginning in 1977 every convention was dedicated to a single “Guest Of Honor” for his contributions to close-up magic.
In honor of Lou Gallo, the annual Most Valuable Person award is named the “Lou Gallo MVP Award.” The award, which is voted on by all attendees, is given annually to the person whom they thought contributed the most to make the convention a big success.[2]
The 39th Annual FFFF Convention was held on April 22-25, 2009 in Batavia, New York. with Guest Of Honor being Henry Evans.
The 40th Annual FFFF Convention was held on April 21-24, 2010 in Batavia, New York, with Guest Of Honor being Obie O’Brien.
